Testing the recording settings and volume

It is strongly recommended to check your Sound Cards recording functionality before buying Fonty.

First and foremost, make sure that your microphone and speakers are plugged in correctly:

Microphone into the microphone socket and Speakers into speakers’ socket.

You can consult your hardware vendor for the right place of these sockets on your computer.

Using "Microsoft ® Sound Recorder"

Sound Recorder is a standard software that is installed as part of Windows (unless specifically removed from it).

Launch Sound Recorder via the “Start – All Programs – Accessories – Entertainment – Sound Recorder”.

See picture below for assistance:

The Sound Recorder application will open:

If your microphone has a physical “on/off” switch, make sure it is set to “on”.

E.g:

Click the red “Record” button, and say: “I’m trying to record my sound”.

Then click the black “stop” button:

While recording your speech, the line should show signals like this:

Now press the triangle “Play” button to hear your recording.

If during recording, the line remains flat (no signal appears), or shows very “small” signals, and then during playback you do not hear your recording,
or hear a “static noise” instead – there is a problem with your recording settings.
If you have a different microphone, replace  the current one,

and retry the above procedure.

If all went well, then you are able to record and play your voice,

so your computer can use Fonty’s voice recognition feature.

If when using a different microphone, no sound is being recorded, proceed to the following steps.

You will now return to the previous window, but this time you will have a “Microphone” column.

as well as raise the volume bar towards the middle as is shown in the following picture:

You can now close this window by clicking the “X” in the upper window’s frame:

If presented with the following window, click “No”:

Rerun the “Sound Recorder” test.

If you are still unable to record your voice, there is a problem either with your Sound Card hardware or with your software settings.Consult your Hardware / Software vendor in order to fix this problem.
NOTE: You can operate Fonty only when you are able to record your voice, and hear it playback loud and clear and without background noise. Very silent recordings or background noise indicate that your current Sound Card settings will not allow proper operation of Fonty.
